Barro Colorado

Duration: 8 Hours

The trip starts at
7:15 a.m. on week days and at 8:00 a.m. on weekends. The boat departs from the dock at Gamboa and arrives at Barro Colorado 45 minutes to an hour later. The guide will give some information about natural history and prepare the group for the walk along the trail. This is a 2-3 hour hike. The walk ends at the Visitor Center, where you will find an exhibition regarding Barro Colorado Nature Monument. After the Visitors Center you will head to the cafeteria to have lunch. This is a cafeteria-style lunch with a variety of dishes, including a vegetarian section, since some of the scientists that live and work at Barro colorado are also vegetarian. After lunch, you will have time to ask questions and relax. The boat departs to Gamboa at 3:40 on weekdays (arrives at Gamboa at 4:20 p.m.) and at 2:30 p.m. (arrives at Gamboa at 3:30 p.m.) on weekends.

Remember to bring hiking shoes, long pants, camera, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, insect repellent and water.

Canopy Tower Birding Tour

Duration: Half Day

Today you will be transferred to the Canopy Tower, an ancient radar tower of the US army and today an excellent place for bird watching. Together with an English speaking ornithologist guide you will walk the trails of Soberania National Park around Canopy Tower to observe a large variety of birds. After the tour, a meal on the third floor of the Tower is included. The tour can be operated in the early morning (incl. breakfast), around noon (incl. lunch) or in the evening (incl. dinner).

Emberá Indian Village in the Jungle

Duration: 8 hours

In the morning your guide will pick you up at your hotel and take you up north towards Lake Alajuela. There you will step into small boats, which will carry you up the Chagres River. A fascinating and dense jungle will accompany you on your boat trip. You will arrive at a village of the Embera Indians, one of seven indigenous tribes in Panama. The people of the Embera tribe will welcome you at the pier and gladly give you an idea on how they live. While visiting the Emberá Indians, you will experience an authentic view into thousands of years of culture and human tradition, who already were there before the Europeans arrived to the Americas. You will be inevitably set back hundreds of years. The Embera women will also prepare a typical lunch for you.

Gatún Lake Canopy and Hiking Trails

Duration: 6 hours

In the morning you will be picked up at your Panama City Hotel and transferred to the shores of Lake Gatun just outside Colon.

Upon arrival your Canopy guides will distribute the necessary safety equipment. After a short walk to the beginning of the Canopy your guides will give you a complete safety briefing and prepare you for this rainforest adventure. Now you are ready for the adrenaline rushing experience! Once on the first platform – a few meters above ground, your knowledgeable guide will assist you in hooking your harness to the cable and start flying through the dense canopy! The series of 10 platforms are sometimes located over 20 meters high and up to 350 meters apart, allowing you to glide through the treetops! Some cables even cross parts of Lake Gatun and offer majestic views on the surrounding vegetation.

After this adrenaline rushing experience you will explore the hiking trails of the Lake Gatun area. Your knowledgeable guide will take you on an expedition to learn about the flora and fauna along the paths leading through the dense jungle. With a bit of luck you will be able to spot sloths, monkeys, toucans and other inhabitants of the rainforest.

After the tour, transfer back to Panama City will be provided.

Mamoni White Water Rafting

Duration. Full Day

The Mamoni river was pioneered for rafting/kayaking by in January 1998. The river is classified as Class III-IV. There are a couple of passes that you will hike due to safety considerations, among them, a beautiful Class V+ fall. The main economic activities that surrounds the area are: gold panning, cattle farms, subsistence agriculture, forestry, and banana plantations.

The tour starts by picking you up at your Panama City Hotel around 8:00 a.m. You will arrive to the put in an hour later to start rafting around 10:00 a.m. Enjoy a beautiful river experience with plenty of action along Mamoni River. Lunch will be served on the river banks. You will arrive to the take out zone around 3:30 p.m. and back to your Panama City Hotel around 5:30 p.m.

To bring: Swimsuit or a pair of shorts for navigating, sneakers or straped sandals with good soles, a baseball cap, and sun lotion. A set of dry clothes to change for the return trip.

Matropolitan National Park

Duration: Half Day

The Metropolitan National Park is the only tropical rain forest natural park inside a major urban center in Central America. The park is also part of the interoceanic biological corridor formed by several protected areas stretching from the Pacific to the Atlantic. The park is a good spot for bird watching, to see monkeys, raccoons, sloth, squirrels, tall trees and plants. The tour starts usually in the early morning so you can observe many active mammals, reptiles and birds. In the Park you will take a hike for approximately 2 – 3 hours.

Please wear hiking shoes and long pants and don’t forget to bring your camera, a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, insect repellent and water.

Panama Canal Jungle Tour

Duration: 6 hours

The Panama Canal Jungle Tour is a very complete tour on Lake Gatun. You will aboard a speedboat and enjoy a boat ride on this large body of fresh water. You will be able to spot a great variety of flora and fauna as well as huge vessels transiting the Panama Canal. After this spectacular boat ride you will arrive to a floating house on the lake where a typical lunch will be served. After lunch, you will be able to participate in a variety of other activities such as swimming in the lake, fishing, an ecological hike and kayaking.

Panama Canal Railway and Portobelo

Duration: 8 hours

Undertake a train trip on the historical and original railway course from Panama City to Colón. This 1- hour travel leads you through the jungle and along the Panama Canal. This course was finished in 1855. The French Panama Canal company had acquired the railway line in 1880, as an assistance to build the Canal. In 1904 then bought the Americans the Canal and the railway line and were operating the railway line until 1979. In 1998, Panama privatized the railway line and renewed it completely. Since 2001, the course is again passable and a unique attraction. After the beautiful train trip, one goes from Colón to the Port of Portobelo. This port was the gathering point of the Peruvian treasures in the 15th century. These were shipped there towards the metropolis of the empire, and in addition, it was the centre of control and inspection of the goods, which arrived from Spain. The ruin complex is built and set up in the middle of the tropical jungle and covers a set of fortress, castles and military bases.

Visit the biggest shopping malls of Panama! There is either the commercial center Los Pueblos, one of the biggest malls of Central America and located near International Airport or Albrook Mall, a huge climatized indoor Mall right at the domestic airport. At both places you can enjoy a couple of hours of shopping. You will find a big number of shops and stores of a great variety of merchandise at excellent prices. Also you can find many different restaurants of fast food, and from national and international food.

Soberanía National Park and Camino de las Cruces

Duration: Half Day

In the early morning you break up to the Soberanía National Park. There you will walk a part of the famous track “Camino de Cruces” that connects the Pacific to the Atlantic coast. This historical trail was once used by merchants, slaves, european explorers and gold seekers. In the morning you will enjoy a nice and fresh climate in the forest and have the opportunity to observe many different species of plants and animals. The Soberania National Park is part of a biological corridor that goes all the way from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean. Therefore you will observe many birds, mammals and reptiles.

The Chagres Challenge White Water Rafting and Natrure

Duration: Full Day

The Chagres Challenge is a full day jungle expedition with much more than rafting. The white water rafting part is characterized by currents alternating with backwaters and is considered as Class II / Class III by the International Classification of River Navigation. As a result of dense tropical forest that covers the basin of the river, sedimentation is minimum; therefore, clear water can be expected very often. Although the Chagres Area is the natural habitat of big mammals such as tapir and jaguar, they are rarely spotted. It is much easier to see monkeys (spider, howler, whiteface capuchin , Geoffrey’s Tamarin), sloths, river otters, iguans, tucans, and plenty of fish.

The Chagres Challenge begins at 5:00am in your Panama City Hotel. In a 4×4 you will be taken to a remote village called San Cristobal for a light breakfast. You will then hike for approximately 1.5 hours on a narrow and sometimes muddy trail that takes you deep into the jungle to an afluent of the Chagres River – Rio Piedras. At aproximatelly 11:00am you will start an exciting five hour rafting tour on the Chagres River, all the way to Madden Lake, reaching it
around 4:30pm. You will have a fine lunch served somewhere along Chagres River. Close to Madden Lake, you will be met by Embera Indians and your rafts will be towed by an outboard motorboat, for the last half hour to reach the nearest road. After the tour, transfer back to your Panama City Hotel will be provided.
